Refuse & Recycling
A 95-gallon cart for yard waste pickup is included in Lakeshore's (formerly known as Environmental) services to all Village residents. Yard waste pickup occurs annually from the week of March 15 through the week of December 15. During the months in which yard waste pickup does not occur, residents may use the yard waste cart as an extra refuse cart at no additional charge. Yard waste may also be disposed of in biodegradable paper bags. NO STICKERS ARE REQUIRED.

Residents are allowed to place yard waste in biodegradable kraft type bags (no sticker required) or use the 95-gallon yard waste cart provided by Lakeshore Recycling Systems (formerly known as Environmental Recycling & Disposal).
Place carts and/or bags at the curb with wheels against the curb by 6 a.m. on your designated collection day. Branches, shrubbery cuttings and tree limbs must be less than 4 inches in diameter and bundled to a maximum of two feet in diameter and three feet in length. Bundles must weigh less than 50 lbs.
Acceptable items include:
- Grass trimmings
- Shrubbery cuttings
- Leaves
- Live Christmas trees
- Twigs
- Branches
- Outdoor plants
- Flowers
- Tree limbs (if less than 4 inches in diameter bundled to a maximum of two feet in diameter and three feet in length)
Unacceptable items include:
- Plastic bags
- Animal waste
- Cardboard
- Concrete
- Rock
- Fruits
- Vegetables
- Dirt
- Stone
- Indoor plants
- Trees
- Stumps larger than 3 inches

Lakeshore Recycling Systems (formerly known as Environmental Recycling & Disposal) will pick up bulk items weekly. Bulk items must be less than 50 lbs. and reasonably maneuvered by one individual. Residents must schedule pickup for bulk items heavier than 50 lbs. and/or requires more than one person to move. Residents may schedule a pickup by contacting Lakeshore at 815-725-4555.
Acceptable items include:
- Furniture
- Carpet (cut 4 ft. in width, rolled and tied and weigh less than 50 lbs.)
- Mattresses (wrap in plastic)
- Paint (no lid/pain solidified)
- Grills (no propane tank)
Unacceptable items include:
- Construction
- Cleanout debris
- Hazardous waste
- Auto parts
- Stumps
- Riding mowers
- Tires
- Items over 50 lbs.

Lakeshore Recycling Systems (formerly known as Environmental Recycling & Disposal) will pick up one appliance weekly. The white good should be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on your regular service day. Call Lakeshore at 815-725-4555 to request pickup 24 hours in advance.

E-waste pickup through Lakeshore Recycling Systems (formerly known as Environmental Recycling & Disposal) is available quarterly. You must schedule your pickup at least 24 hours in advance of the pickup day. Additional fees will apply.
Acceptable items include:
- Computers/equipment
- TVs
- Microwaves
- Stereos
- Digital equipment
- Cell phones
- Video games
- Microwaves
- Phones
- Small appliances
Unacceptable items include commercially sized electronics.
E-waste pickup days will occur:
- Week of February 17
- Week of May 12
- Week of August 18
- Week of November 10
Additionally, Channahon Township residents are able to drop off electronics every first and third Thursday of the month from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Channahon Township Building, located at 25355 S. Center Street.

Refuse & Recycling
The Village of Channahon does not have a compactor but the Channahon Township has one located at 25461 S Fryer Street. Hours are Saturdays 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. year-round with additional hours from April through October on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. For a list of items accepted please contact them at 815-467-2569 or visit our recycling page (link).

Christmas trees will be collected by Lakeshore Recycling Systems (formerly known as Environmental Recycling & Disposal) without charge curbside for the first three (3) weeks following Christmas on the resident's regular collection day.

Refuse pickup occurs Monday-Thursday in the Village of Channahon. To check your address for your specific pickup day, please visit Lakeshore's (formerly known as Environmental) website (link).

Weekday holidays will delay collection by one day for the remainder of the week. For example, if a holiday falls on a Monday, Monday customers will be collected on Tuesday and Tuesday customers will be collected on Wednesday, and so on.
During the weekday holidays listed below, please be prepared for a one day service delay.
