1. Is my refuse pickup day going to change when Environmental takes over?

While a portion of Village collection will remain on Monday, Environmental has also added refuse pickup days on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Please visit the following link to check your address for your service day: www.envrd.com/channahon. 

2. What should I do with my Waste Management carts?

Waste Management will pick up their carts from residential customers after their last day of service on Monday, April 27, 2020. Residential customers are asked to LEAVE THEIR CARTS OUT near the curb after service on 4/27/2020. Waste Management will remove their carts from Monday, 4/27/2020, through Wednesday, 4/29/2020. 

If you are a snowbird, will be out of town or have other circumstances that will prevent you from leaving your Waste Management carts out for retrieval on 4/27/2020, please contact Waste Management directly to set up an alternate retrieval date. Their customer service number is (866) 570-4702.

3. What is the rate for refuse services with Environmental?

The first year monthly rate for all refuse services is $20.64, regardless of cart size. This rate includes a $1.00 administrative fee. All Village of Channahon residents covered under the refuse contract have had an administrative fee included in the refuse rate since 2000.

4. What cart sizes does Environmental Recycling & Disposal offer? Are there different prices for different cart sizes?

Refuse cart sizes are 95-, 65- and 35-gallon. Recyclables cart sizes are 96- and 65-gallon. Yard waste carts are only available in the 95-gallon size. There are not different prices for different cart sizes. The first year rate for all refuse services is $20.64. 5. How does the new yard waste program work with Environmental?

A 95-gallon cart for yard waste pickup is included in Environmental’s services to all Village residents. Yard waste pickup will occur annually from the week of March 15 through the week of December 15. During the months in which yard waste pickup does not occur, residents may use the yard waste cart as an extra refuse cart at no additional charge. Yard waste may also be disposed of in biodegradable paper bags. NO STICKERS ARE REQUIRED.

6. Can I receive a credit for any unused Waste Management stickers I still have after April 30, 2020?

Beginning Tuesday, April 28th through Friday, June 19th, the Village of Channahon will issue a credit on a current residents’ utility account for any unused Waste Management sticker(s).  Cash will not be given for unused Waste Management sticker(s).  Currently, the Village Hall lobby is not open to the public.  Unused Waste Management stickers can be mailed to the Village of Channahon, Finance Department, Attention: Melissa at 24555 S. Navajo Drive or an envelope can be placed in the payment drop box located at the same address.  The Village requests that in addition to the unused Waste Management stickers, the resident also provide the following information in the envelope:

• First and Last Name
• Channahon Property Address
• Phone Number
• Utility Billing Account Number

A resident account will receive a credit of $1.75 per unused Waste Management sticker(s) returned to the Village by Friday, June 19th.  Any unused Waste Management sticker turned in after Friday, June 19th will not be accepted for a credit.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Village at 815.467.6644.

7. Are there any discounts available for senior citizens or disabled US military veterans?

Residents over 65 or 100% disabled military veterans can receive a $2.00 per month discount on refuse services. Please contact the Village’s Finance Department to see if you qualify for the discounted rate at (815) 467-6644.

8. What color are the new carts from Environmental?

Environmental’s carts are green, with lids colored to indicate their designated purpose: dark green for refuse, tan for recycling and light green for yard waste.

9. Will I be billed by Environmental Recycling & Disposal or the Village of Channahon for refuse?

Refuse service billing will still go through the Village of Channahon. For questions related to your billing, please contact the Village’s Finance Department at (815) 467-6644.

11. I am a 100% disabled veteran. How do I get the associated discount for my monthly refuse?

To qualify for the discounted rate, residents must visit Village Hall and provide appropriate documentation. This may include one of the following items: a letter issued by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, the Veterans Administration Office or a "Summary of Benefits" letter from any other state and city stating the veteran has a service-connected disability evaluated at 100%. The documents you present must be current.
