Board of Trustees Meeting Recap

Meeting Highlights for Monday, July 7, 2025

CHANNAHON, Ill. - The Village Board of Trustees and Committee of the Whole met on Monday, July 7, 2025. Highlights of the meeting are recapped in brief below. Please note: this media release does not reflect official minutes of the meeting.

MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

  • Swearing in of K9 Officer Atlas (see below for photos)
    • Mayor Missey issued the Oath of Office to K9 Officer Atlas, the Channahon Police Department’s newest “paw-ficer.” Atlas and his specialized training and transport equipment were funded entirely through Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow’s “League of Extraordinary Canines & Friends” program. 
  • Wyland Mayor's Water Challenge (see below for photos)
    • During the month of April, member communities from the Grand Prairie Water Commission (GPWC) took part in the National Wyland Mayor’s Challenge for Conservation. Channahon was the winning municipality for greatest participation among the GPWC communities. Representatives from the commission presented the Mayor and Board of Trustees with the trophy during the Board Meeting, which will be on display at Village Hall for the coming year.

VOTES

The Board voted on the following items during the formal meeting:

  • Approved:Village Hall Parking Lot Expansion Design
    • The Board approved the selection of Baxter & Woodman to complete the design for the south Village Hall parking lot expansion, which will add a new drive aisle with parking on both sides and additional handicap spaces. Design is budgeted for FY26, with construction planned for FY27.
  • Approved: Approval of Corrpro’s Proposal to Replace the Cathodic Protection System at Bridge Streets’ Boost Station
    • The booster station, essential for distributing water between two pressure zones, requires replacement of its failed cathodic protection system to prevent deterioration. Following a 2024 evaluation by Corrpro, the Village will install an impressed current cathodic protection system, as recommended and budgeted for during this fiscal year.
  • Approved: Approval to Purchase Replacement Luminaries for Navajo Drive
    • The Board of Trustees approved the replacement of outdated high-pressure sodium luminaries on Navajo Drive with LED units, as the current models are no longer supported and showing signs of wear. A few new units from Crescent Electric are already in use and performing well, with the full replacement cost of $38,777.64 budgeted for during this fiscal year.
  • Approved: Purchase of Two New 2026 Ford F-250 Service Body Vehicles
    • The Village plans to replace service vehicles #40 (2013) and #47 (2016) with two identical 2026 F-250s, featuring service bodies, C-tech tool drawers, inverters, and Tommy Gate liftgates. The total cost - $93,670 for cab and chassis and $55,214 for upfitting - is accounted for in the FY25-26 budget.
  • Approved: Approval of Stewart Spreading Inc. for Wastewater Solids Removal
    • The Board approved contracting with Stewart Spreading Inc. for biosolid land application, with an estimated 830 cubic yards to be removed in quarters 2-4 at a rate of $29.37 per cubic yard. The total cost for this service is $24,377.10.
  • Approved: UMA LLC (Dairy Queen) - Acceptance of Public Improvements and Release of Improvement Completion Guarantee
    • UMA LLC (Dairy Queen) requested the Village release the Improvement Completion Bond and accept completed public improvements, including storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and parkway landscaping. Following inspection and confirmation that all work is complete and in good condition, acceptance will require a two-year Maintenance Guarantee equal to 20% of the original bond, per Village Ordinance.
