Overview

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Channahon is a statutory body that sits pursuant to Village President appointment, and derives its power and authority from an Act of the General Assembly entitled, "Division 2.1 Board of Fire and Police Commissioners," of Chapter 65 of the Illinois Compiled Statutes, and from Chapter 32: Boards and Commissions of the Village of Channahon's code of ordinances.

The Fire and Police Commission independently fulfills all duties and responsibilities associated with establishing and maintaining a current eligibility list for all promoted ranks; hearing of charges, removals and discharges of sworn personnel; discipline of police personnel exceeding the scope of the Chief of Police's authority; providing an annual report to the Village President of the Commission's activities; and establishing an annual budget for the Commission.

Although the official title suggest oversight of Fire Department personnel, in Channahon all aspects concerning the Fire Department fall under the jurisdiction of the Channahon Fire Protection District.
