Overview
On March 4, 2024, the Channahon Village Board unanimously voted to establish the Channahon Arts & Culture Commission in furtherance of promoting cultural and artistic programs that will enrich and enhance the quality of life in Channahon and the region. The five-member commission will be responsible for developing community cultural and arts policies, programs, and events and to research and develop funding sources through donations and other grants that may be utilized for the creation and expansion of these programs.

Fine Arts Scholarship
Channahon's Arts & Culture Commission was formed to inspire, organize, and promote cultural and artistic programs that enrich community life. This scholarship was created to encourage our community's next generation of artists, musicians, vocalists, and thespians.
One $500.00 Fine Arts Scholarship offered to a graduating high school senior who resides in the Channahon Village limits.
Eligible student must fill out scholarship application (link) and meet all criteria by submission date.
Scholarship Committee consisting of two (2) Arts & Culture Commission members and (1) Village Board member will score submissions using agreed upon Channahon Arts & Culture Commission Score Sheet (link).
Committee's selection sent to the winning students' high school to be announced at student's High School awards night.
Congratulation letter sent from the Arts & Culture Commission and the Channahon Village Board to the scholarship winner will consist of:
Invitation to a regularly scheduled Village Board Meeting for recognition
Further instructions, including Finance Department contact information
- Scholarship payment will be sent to the winner's accredited higher learning institution.
- Scholarship winner must reach out to the Finance Department with their college/university student ID once registered.
- Student's name and student ID will need to be on the memo line of check
- Payment will include a brief letter to the college/university indicating how the funds are to be spent (tuition, fees, and books) from the Arts & Culture Commission and the Village of Channahon.
- Must be a graduating senior and live within the Village of Channahon limits.
- Plan to further education at a Junior College, College, University, or other accredited higher learning institution within a Fine Arts field.
- Submit art portfolio or audio/video recording
- Visual Artists - portfolio of original art work in any medium of their choice
- Musicians - video recording of their vocal or instrumental performance, either solo or in an ensemble
- Thespians - a video recording of their performance, either a monologue or ensemble
- One (1) letter of recommendation from a teacher or instructor related to the fine arts.
- 300-word essay on how the arts have impacted them and their plans to incorporate the arts into their future.
