Citizen's Police Academy
The Citizen's Police Academy is a 12-week program that will allow Channahon residents to get a first-hand view of situations police officers are faced with on a daily basis. Residents can also expect to get a hands-on experience in a variety of law enforcement topics taught by members of the police department. The Academy will start on September 6, 2023 and meet on every Wednesday night from 7-9 p.m. until November 22, 2023, which will be graduation day.
The goal of the Citizen's Police Academy is to allow the Channahon Police Department to develop a better working relationship with the community it serves and give the community an opportunity to learn more about its police department.
This year's topics include:
- K9 Demonstration
- Mock Trial
- Taser/Less-lethal Demonstration
- Felony Stops/Stop Sticks
- Drone Demonstration
- DUI
- First Aid/Bleeding Control
- Building Searches
- and much more!
Participants are given the opportunity to go on a ride-along with a patrol officer. Officer Adam Nelli, a four-year veteran of the department, will be the class coordinator.
